Make a Link Clickable (Web, Desktop, Phone)

Updated 2026-09-29·7 min read

To make a link clickable on your phone, select words in a Taskade task and tap the link button. Then paste the URL and tap Add link.

TL;DR: A hyperlink puts a web address behind your own words. On a phone, select the words and tap the link button in the toolbar. On the web or the desktop app, select the words and paste the URL, or press Cmd + Shift + L. Hyperlinks work on every plan. For plain URLs, see Paste a Link.

In this guide, you will:

  • Create a hyperlink on your phone
  • Create a hyperlink on the web and in the desktop app
  • Edit or remove a hyperlink
  • Change the color of links

Before You Start

You need a project with a task that holds the words to link.

Requirement Details
Plan Every plan, Free included
Who can do this Anyone who can edit the project
Apps Taskade for iOS and Android, a web browser, or the desktop app
Time About 1 minute

How It Works

A hyperlink has two parts: the words that people see, and the address that opens.

The link must be on your clipboard first.

  1. Open the page or app that has the link.
  2. Touch and hold the link, or the address bar of your browser.
  3. Tap Copy.

Step 2: Select the Words in a Task

The words that you select become the link.

  1. Open the project in the Taskade app.
  2. Tap the task that holds the words.
  3. Double-tap a word to select it.
  4. Drag the handles until the selection covers all the words.

The link button opens the Add hyperlink box.

  1. In the toolbar above the keyboard, tap the link button.
  2. In the Add hyperlink box, paste the URL.
  3. Tap Add link.
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Add hyperlink │
├──────────────────────────────────────────────┤
│ ┌────────────────────────────────────────┐ │
│ │ https://www.taskade.com/learn │ │
│ └────────────────────────────────────────┘ │
│ │
│ [ Cancel ] [ Add link ] │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────┘

If you leave out https://, Taskade adds it. If the address is not valid, the box shows "Link is not valid".

Tip: Select a phone number, and the box offers to add it as a phone number link. A tap on that link opens your phone dialer.

You Are Done When

The words show as a link, and a tap opens the page in your phone's browser.

The web app and the desktop app give you two ways to add a hyperlink.

Paste over the words:

  1. Copy the URL.
  2. Select the words in the task.
  3. Press Cmd + V (Mac) or Ctrl + V (Windows or Linux).

Use the Add hyperlink button:

  1. Select the words in the task. A format toolbar opens.
  2. Click Add hyperlink, or press Cmd + Shift + L (Mac) or Ctrl + Shift + L (Windows).
  3. Type or paste the URL in the Add link box.
  4. Press Enter. To close the box with no change, press Esc.

A click on a web link opens the page in a new tab. A link to a Taskade project opens the project inside Taskade.

The same box that adds a link also changes it.

Task On the web or desktop On your phone
Change the address Select the linked words, then click Add hyperlink. Edit the URL and press Enter. Select the linked words, then tap the link button. Edit the URL and tap Add link.
Remove the link Select the linked words, open the box, and click the delete icon. Or clear the URL and press Enter. Select the linked words, tap the link button, clear the URL, and tap Remove Link.

The words stay in the task after you remove the link.

Links take the color of their workspace or folder. A new color changes the links in every project inside it.

  1. Open the settings of the workspace or folder.
  2. On the General tab, find Color.
  3. Pick a color. For your own color, click the custom color button, enter a hex code such as #000000, and click Set Color.
  4. Click Update.

See Customize Project for covers and other project styles.

The Taskade app appears in the share sheet of your phone, so you can save a link without copying it.

  1. In your browser or another app, tap Share.
  2. Pick Taskade in the share sheet.
  3. Pick the project, then tap Add to project.

The link saves as a new task, and it is clickable.
