Overview
Connect Supabase to Taskade so your database and your workspace share one loop. A new row can start an automation, and any automation can read and write rows, call a database function, or save a file to Storage.
TL;DR: Supabase connects to Taskade automations with your project URL and an API key. The New Row trigger starts an automation when a row is added to a table. Actions insert, update, upsert, find, and delete rows, call a database function, and upload a file to Storage. Supabase steps need Pro and up.
Before You Start
- What you need: A Supabase project and a Taskade workspace
- Plan: Pro and up. On Free and Starter, the Supabase steps show a PRO badge and open the upgrade page.
- Time: About 5 minutes
Step 1: Copy Your Supabase Project URL and Key
- Open your project at supabase.com/dashboard.
- Go to Project Settings, then Data API, and copy the Project URL.
- Go to Project Settings, then API Keys, and copy a key.
Step 2: Connect Supabase in Taskade
Taskade stores the connection for the whole workspace, so every automation that uses Supabase reuses it.
- Open Automations in your workspace, and click Create.
- Add a trigger or a step, and search for Supabase.
- Click Connect.
- Paste the Project URL and the API Key. The secret (service_role) key reads and writes every table and bypasses Row Level Security, so keep it private. The publishable (anon) key can do only what your Row Level Security policies allow.
- Save the connection. Taskade tests it with Supabase before it saves it.
Step 3: Pick a Trigger or an Action
Pick a Supabase trigger to start an automation, or add a Supabase action after any trigger. See Automation Triggers and Automation Actions for the Taskade steps that you can combine with them.
| Trigger | Starts the automation when |
|---|---|
| New Row | A new row is added to the Supabase table that you pick. Checks every 15 minutes. |
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Insert Row | Inserts a new row, or a list of rows, and returns the saved rows. |
| Update Rows | Updates the rows that match a filter, and returns them. |
| Upsert Row | Inserts a row, or updates the row that has the same value in a unique column. |
| Find Rows | Returns the rows that match an optional filter, sorted and limited. |
| Delete Rows | Deletes the rows that match a filter, and returns them. |
| Call Database Function (RPC) | Calls a Postgres function in the public schema, and returns its result. |
| Upload File to Storage | Downloads a file from a link and saves it in a Storage bucket. Returns its path and public URL. |
You are done when a test row in your Supabase table starts the automation within 15 minutes. A test step can also write a row that you then see in Supabase.
Build Your First Supabase Automation
Start from one of these patterns, then add your own steps.
| Goal | Trigger | Steps that follow |
|---|---|---|
| Triage new sign-ups | New Row in your sign-ups table | Categorize with AI, then Add Task for the sales team |
| Write project data back | A Taskade task is completed | Upsert Row with the task status |
| Store uploaded files | A form submission with a file link | Upload File to Storage, then Insert Row with the file URL |
To describe an automation in plain words instead, ask Taskade EVE in your workspace. For example:
Build an automation that uses Supabase. When the trigger fires, add a task with the details to a project that I pick. Do not add any other steps yet.
The last sentence of the prompt keeps the first draft small, so you can test one step before you add more.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Supabase key do I use?
Use the publishable (anon) key when your Row Level Security policies already allow the access that you need. Use the secret (service_role) key only when an automation must read and write every table, and keep that key private.
How fast does the New Row trigger start?
The New Row trigger checks for new rows every 15 minutes, so an automation can start up to 15 minutes after the insert.
