Overview
Connect Tally to Taskade so each form answer becomes work in your workspace. A new submission can create a task, route the answers to the right person, or feed an AI agent.
TL;DR: Tally connects to Taskade automations with an API key. The New Submission trigger starts an automation each time someone submits the form that you pick, with the answers keyed by question label. Actions list your forms, read one form, and list its submissions. Tally steps need Pro and up.
Before You Start
- What you need: A Tally account with at least one form and a Taskade workspace
- Plan: Pro and up. On Free and Starter, the Tally steps show a PRO badge and open the upgrade page.
- Time: About 5 minutes
Step 1: Create a Tally API Key
- Sign in at tally.so, and open Settings.
- Go to API keys, and click Create API key.
- Copy the key.
Step 2: Connect Tally in Taskade
Taskade stores the connection for the whole workspace, so every automation that uses Tally reuses it.
- Open Automations in your workspace, and click Create.
- Add a trigger or a step, and search for Tally.
- Click Connect.
- Paste the key into API Key. Taskade uses the key only to read your forms and submissions and to register the New Submission trigger.
- Save the connection. Taskade tests it with Tally before it saves it.
Step 3: Pick a Trigger or an Action
Pick a Tally trigger to start an automation, or add a Tally action after any trigger. See Automation Triggers and Automation Actions for the Taskade steps that you can combine with them.
| Trigger | Starts the automation when |
|---|---|
| New Submission | Someone submits the Tally form that you pick. The output has the submission IDs, the form name, the submit time, and the answers keyed by question label. |
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| List Forms | Lists the forms of the connected account. |
| Get Form | Reads one form by ID: its name, status, public link, submission count, and whether it is closed. |
| List Submissions | Lists the submissions of one form, newest first, one page at a time. |
You are done when a test submission on your Tally form starts the automation and a task with the answers shows in your project.
Build Your First Tally Automation
Start from one of these patterns, then add your own steps.
| Goal | Trigger | Steps that follow |
|---|---|---|
| Turn requests into tasks | New Submission | Add Task with the answers in the task note |
| Route by topic | New Submission | Categorize with AI, Branch on the category, then Assign Task |
| Summarize a busy week | Schedule | List Submissions, Summarize with AI, then Add Task with the summary |
To describe an automation in plain words instead, ask Taskade EVE in your workspace. For example:
Build an automation that uses Tally. When the trigger fires, add a task with the details to a project that I pick. Do not add any other steps yet.
The last sentence of the prompt keeps the first draft small, so you can test one step before you add more.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I use one answer in a later step?
