Automate Instagram End to End
The Taskade Instagram integration does two jobs. It uploads photos and videos from your Instagram account into a project, and it powers automations that watch Instagram and act on what they find. The upload steps above cover the first job. This section covers the second job, so your team stops checking Instagram by hand.
TL;DR: Connect Instagram to Taskade once, then build automations that turn comments, mentions, and new posts into tasks, replies, and reports. Your projects hold the memory, AI agents read every message, and automations push results back out. No code required. See how the loop works in Automations & Execution. Start free →
Three pieces make this work together. Your projects are the memory. Your AI agents are the intelligence that reads each Instagram message and decides what to do. Your automations are the execution that runs on a trigger and pushes a result back out. Connect them once, and Instagram stops being a tab you babysit. It becomes a feed your workspace handles for you.
Connect Your Instagram Account in One Pass
Connect your Instagram account before you build any automation. You only do this once, and every automation reuses the same connection.
- Open any project in your workspace.
- Open the Add-ons menu, or type /instagram in a task.
- Pick Instagram from the list.
- Sign in with your Instagram email and password when the window appears.
- Grant Taskade access to your Instagram account.
- Confirm the connection. Taskade remembers it for next time.
A business Instagram account is required, the same as it is for uploads. After you connect, open the Automations tab in the same workspace to build a flow on top of the connection.
| What you need | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Business Instagram account | Required for both uploads and automations |
| One sign-in | Connect once, every automation reuses it |
| A project to write to | This is the memory where results land |
| An AI agent (optional) | Reads each message and drafts the response |
Things You Can Automate With Instagram
Instagram automations are built from two halves. A trigger is the Instagram event that starts the flow. An action is what Taskade does next. You connect a trigger to one or more actions, and the automation runs every time the event happens. Learn the full model in Automation Triggers and Automation Actions.
Here are common Instagram events you can listen for and turn into work.
| Instagram trigger | What it watches | Useful action to pair |
|---|---|---|
| New comment | Comments on your posts | Create a task, ask an agent to draft a reply |
| New direct message | Incoming DMs | Tag the message, route it to a teammate |
| New mention | Posts that tag your account | Log the mention, send a thank-you draft |
| New follower | Account growth events | Add to a CRM project, start a welcome sequence |
| New post published | Your own new posts | Cross-post a summary, update a content tracker |
And here are actions Taskade can run once a trigger fires.
- Create a task in the project that tracks Instagram work, so nothing slips.
- Ask an AI agent to read the comment or DM and draft an on-brand reply. See AI Action.
- Run an agent command to classify the message as a lead, a complaint, or fan mail. See Agent Action.
- Send the result onward to Slack, email, or another tool through Webhooks, since Taskade ships 100+ bidirectional integrations.
- Update a project view so the whole team sees Instagram activity in a Board, Table, or Calendar.
💡 Tip: Taskade gives every workspace 7 project views (List, Board, Calendar, Table, Mind Map, Gantt, Org Chart). Point your Instagram automation at a Board or Table view to watch comments and DMs land in real time.
See an Instagram Automation in Action
Here is a simple flow many teams build first. A new comment arrives on Instagram, an AI agent reads it and drafts a reply, and a task lands in your project for a human to approve. The diagram below shows how the trigger, the agent, and the action connect.
The dashed arrow is the part that compounds. Every reply gets logged back to your project. Over time that project becomes a record of what your audience asks, which makes the agent's next draft sharper. Read Automations & Execution for the full picture of how triggers, actions, and agents fit together.
To build this flow, choose your trigger first, then add the AI agent step, then add the task step. Taskade can pick frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google automatically, so you do not need to choose one by hand. Agents ship with 34 built-in tools, so the same agent that drafts the reply can also research, summarize, or tag the message.
Verify Your Instagram Setup
Run this checklist before you trust an automation to run on its own. Each row tells you what to check and what to do if it fails.
| Check | What good looks like | If it fails |
|---|---|---|
| Account connected | Instagram shows as linked in Add-ons | Reconnect using the steps above |
| Business account | You used a business Instagram login | Switch your Instagram account to business |
| Trigger fires | A test comment starts the automation | Re-pick the trigger in the Automations tab |
| Agent reads the message | The draft reply matches the comment | Add knowledge to the agent so it stays on brand |
| Task lands in the project | A new task appears after the test | Point the action at the correct project |
| Result sent onward | Slack, email, or webhook receives it | Re-check the action and the connected tool |
Test with one real comment before you turn the automation loose on every post. If all six rows pass, your Instagram flow is ready.
Common Questions
How do I set up the Taskade Instagram integration?
Open any project, open the Add-ons menu or type /instagram, pick Instagram, then sign in with your Instagram email and password. Grant Taskade access and confirm. You only connect once. After that, every upload and every automation reuses the same connection. A business Instagram account is required.
Do I need a business Instagram account?
Yes. A business Instagram account is required for both uploads and automations. If your account is personal, switch it to a business account in the Instagram app first, then connect it to Taskade. Personal accounts cannot grant the access the integration needs.
Is the Taskade Instagram integration free?
Yes. The integration is included on every plan, starting with Free. Paid plans add more automation runs and AI capacity. Annual pricing runs Free, Starter at $6, Pro at $16, Business at $40 (the popular plan), Max at $200, and Enterprise at $400. See Automations & Execution for how automation limits scale with your plan.
What can I automate with Instagram in Taskade?
You can turn comments, direct messages, mentions, new followers, and new posts into tasks, replies, and reports. Pair an Instagram trigger with an action like create a task, ask an AI agent to draft a reply, or send the result to another tool. See Automation Triggers and Automation Actions for the full list.
Can an AI agent reply to Instagram comments for me?
Yes. Add an AI Action to your automation, and an agent reads each comment or DM and drafts an on-brand reply. Keep a human in the loop by routing the draft to a task for approval first. Train the agent on your brand voice so every reply sounds like you. See Agent Knowledge.
Where do my uploaded Instagram files go?
Files you upload to a project also appear in the media manager. Files you upload to a project chat or a comment do not appear in the media manager. Use uploaded files as knowledge sources for your AI agents so they can answer questions about your media. See the Media Tab guide.
Can I send Instagram activity to Slack or email?
Yes. Add a Webhooks action or one of the 100+ bidirectional integrations to push Instagram results onward. Triggers pull events into Taskade, and actions push data back out. So a new comment can land in Slack, an email, or a CRM project without anyone copying it by hand.
How do I keep an Instagram automation from sending wrong replies?
Keep a human in the loop. Route every agent draft to a task for approval before it posts. Train the agent on your brand voice and past replies so the draft is close from the start. Use the Verify checklist above to test with one real comment first. Tighten the agent instructions until the drafts read the way you want.
Can I build an Instagram app instead of a single automation?
Yes. Wire Instagram triggers, agents, and projects into a Taskade Genesis app, and you get a small tool your whole team can use. Taskade EVE can scaffold the app from a sentence, then you connect Instagram as the live data source. The app holds the memory, the agents do the reading, and the automations run the work.
Build Your Instagram Workflow
Connect Instagram once, point an automation at a project, and let an AI agent handle the first pass on every comment and message. Start with one trigger, verify it, then add more.
