What Is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) protects your Taskade account with a second verification step on top of your password — typically a 6-digit code from an authenticator app. Even if someone steals your password, they cannot sign in without your phone or backup codes. Enabling MFA takes under two minutes and is the single highest-impact security upgrade you can make.

TL;DR: Open Settings → Passwords → Multi-Factor Authentication → Configure, scan the QR code with Google Authenticator or 1Password, then verify the 6-digit code. Download backup codes and store them in a password manager as a fallback.

Enable Multi-Factor Authentication in Taskade

  1. Click your profile avatar in the top-right corner.
  2. Go to SettingsPasswords(second tab at the top).
  3. Click CONFIGURE under Multi-Factor Authentication.
  4. Type your password and click CONFIRM.
  5. Click SET UP and choose one of the available MFA methods:
  • Authenticator app (e.g. Google Authenticator, 1Password)
  • Backup code (a set of backup codes that can only be used once)

Set Up an Authenticator App

  1. In the setup menu, choose the 🔒 Authenticator app option.
  2. Type the name of your authenticator app.
  3. Scan the QR code with your app or use the provided code.
  4. Enter a code generated in the authenticator app.
  5. Click Verify Code to confirm.

Download Backup Codes

  1. In the setup menu, choose the 🔒 Backup code option.
  2. Taskade will generate a list of backup codes.
  3. Copy and paste the generated codes to a text file.
  4. (optional) Print the codes in case you accidentally delete the file.
  5. Click ACKNOWLEDGE to proceed to the next step.
  6. Click RETURN to complete the process.

💡 Note: Each backup code is for one-time use only. Once you use the code to login, it will no longer be valid. If all backup codes are used, delete the Backup code authentication and go through the set up process again to obtain a new set of codes.

Tips

  • Set up both methods. For maximum security, configure an authenticator app as your primary MFA method and download backup codes as a fallback in case you lose access to the app.
  • Store backup codes securely. Keep your backup codes in a password manager or a printed copy in a safe location. Do not store them in an unencrypted text file on your device.
  • Switching phones. If you get a new phone, export your authenticator app data before wiping the old device. Alternatively, disable MFA in Taskade, set up the authenticator on the new phone, and re-enable MFA.
  • Lost access to your authenticator? Use one of your backup codes to log in, then reconfigure MFA from Settings ➡ Passwords ➡ Multi-Factor Authentication.
