Automation Runs

An automation run is one pass of a Taskade automation, from its trigger to its last step. A form entry, a schedule, a webhook or a click on a button starts a run. Taskade saves each run with the data that went through each step. You open any run later and see what happened, when it ran, and how each step went.

TL;DR: Open Automations, then the All Runs tab, to see every run in your workspace, newest first. Open the Runs tab of one automation to see its own runs. Filter by Completed, Failed or Running, open a run, read the failed step, fix it and retry. Automations run on every plan, Free included. Learn: Automations execution

What Is an Automation Run?

An automation run is the record of real work. The Flow tab shows what an automation is set to do. A run shows what it did. Each run is stored in your Workspace DNA, so you can trace a sent invoice or a new task back to the event that caused it.

Run status What it means
Completed Every step finished
Failed A step stopped with an error
Running The run is still in progress
Filtered A Filter step stopped the run on purpose. This is not a failure

How to Read an Automation Run

Two tabs show runs. The All Runs tab lists every run across the workspace. The Runs tab inside an automation lists the runs of that automation only.

All Runs tab (whole workspace, newest first)
     │ filter: Completed · Failed · Running
     ▼
  open one run
     │
├─ trigger ............ the event that started it
     ├─ step 1 ............. input ──► output
├─ step 2 (failed) .... the error message
     └─ step 3 ............. not reached
     │
     ▼
fix the step ──► retry the run
  1. Open Automations in the sidebar and click All Runs.
  2. Filter by status to find the run that you need.
  3. Open the run and look at each step, with its input and its output.
  4. If a step failed, read the error, fix the step, and retry.

What Happens When Runs Fail

Taskade tells you when runs fail, and it stops an automation that keeps failing. The owners get a notice after the 1st and the 3rd failed run in a row. After 5 failed runs in a row, Taskade turns the automation off, emails the owners, and shows an Auto-paused label. One successful run resets the count.

A step can also carry Continue if this step fails. Then the run goes on, or stops at that step, and the run is not marked as failed. The failed step still shows in Runs, so you can see what went wrong.

Runs and Your Plan

Each plan includes a number of automation runs for each billing period, and the whole workspace shares them. Free includes 10 runs a billing period. Paid plans include more. Premium integrations need a paid plan. See the Learn automation guide for the full table.
