A RACI matrix template shows who is Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed for every task in a project. List the tasks as rows and the people as columns, put one letter in each cell, and give every row exactly one A. This version opens as a live Taskade task dashboard where AI drafts the letters for you.
What Is a RACI Matrix Template?
A RACI matrix template is a table with one row per task and one column per person or role. Each cell holds R, A, C, or I. The rule that makes it useful: every task gets exactly one A, the person who answers for the result. For the theory behind the model, read what the RACI model is.
RACI Rules That Keep the Chart Useful
- One A per task: If two people share it, nobody owns the decision.
- At least one R per task: Someone must do the work. On a small team the A can also be the R, written A/R.
- Keep C short: Each C is a review you wait for, so add it only where input changes the result.
- I means a notice, not a vote: Informed people hear about the decision after it is made.
- Blank cells are fine: A role with no part in a task gets no letter.
- Watch the load: If one person holds most of the A cells, the project waits on them. Spread the ownership.
Sample RACI Matrix
| Task | Project Lead | Designer | Developer | Client |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Write the brief | A/R | C | C | I |
| Design mockups | A | R | C | C |
| Build the site | A | C | R | I |
| Approve launch | R | I | I | A |
| Send launch notice | A/R | I | I | I |
What's Inside
- Task rows: Each deliverable or decision in the project, one per row
- Role columns: One column per person or team, such as Project Lead, Design, or Finance
- R-A-C-I values: One letter per cell, so the chart stays easy to scan
- One A per row: A quick filter shows tasks with no Accountable owner, or with two
- AI fill: Paste your task list and ask the AI to propose the letters for each role
- Missing-owner alert: An automation notifies the project lead when a task has no A
How to Use It
Step 1: Copy the template
Click Use Template to copy the task dashboard into your workspace.
Step 2: Add tasks and roles
Add your tasks as rows, and add a column for each person or role on the project.
Step 3: Let the AI draft the letters
Ask the AI to suggest R, A, C, and I for each task, then correct what it gets wrong with the team.
Step 4: Check the rules
Filter for rows with no A or two A values, and rows with no R, and fix them.
Step 5: Share the matrix
Share the matrix as view-only with stakeholders, with roles from Owner to Viewer.
Template vs App
This leaf opens the Neon Task Management Dashboard, which also tracks due dates and status. Use it when the RACI chart lives next to the work. For a log of open problems, add the issue log. To list everyone the project affects, start a stakeholder register. Browse more project management templates.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does RACI stand for?
Responsible (does the work), Accountable (owns the result), Consulted (gives input before), and Informed (hears about it after).
Can a task have two Accountable people?
No. One A per task is the core rule. If two people share it, nobody owns the decision. Split the task or pick one owner.
Can the Accountable person also be Responsible?
Yes. On a small team one person often does the work and owns the result. Write A/R in the cell so the chart stays honest.
What is the difference between RACI and RASCI?
RASCI adds S for Support: people who help the Responsible person do the work. Add an S value to the same table if you need it.
How do I fill a RACI chart fast?
Paste the task list and the team list, and ask the AI to draft the letters. Review each row with the team in one short meeting.
Can I share the matrix with a client as view-only?
Yes. Invite the client as a Viewer, or share a view-only link, so they see who owns what without edit access.
