Utilisation reviewed at month end is a telling-off. Shown weekly it is information someone can act on, which is a completely different thing.
What's Included
- Progress against target visible to the person themselves.
- Weekly rather than monthly so it can still be changed.
- Non-billable time visible because that is usually the cause.
- An assistant that says what is absorbing the time.
How To Use
- Show it to the person, not just to their manager.
- Report weekly. Monthly is too late to change anything.
- Show where non-billable time went. That is the actionable part.
- Set targets that account for the real non-billable load.
Feed it from job time costing, and plan around it with capacity forecasting.
