📥 Let Customers Export Everything

Turn the app you built for yourself into something other people pay to use. These prompts add the parts that make a tool into a product: customer sign-in, plans and trials, limits that mean something, a billing lifecycle that handles the awkward cases, and an admin view so you can see who is actually using it. The unglamorous half nobody enjoys assembling.

Prospects ask whether they can get their data out and I have no good answer. Build me a data export feature. A signed-in customer can request a complete export of everything belonging to their account, in an open format that opens in ordinary spreadsheet software, with one file per type of record and a plain-language file explaining what each one contains. The export runs without me being involved and notifies them when it is ready to download. Record every export in the audit trail with who requested it and when. Make absolutely sure an export contains only that customer's own data and nothing belonging to anyone else, and let me verify that by running an export as a second test account. Add an AI agent that writes the explanation file describing each export in plain language, and that answers a customer question about what a particular column means. Automate a notification when the export is ready and a scheduled cleanup of old export files after a retention period I set. Two logins: a customer who exports only their own account, and an owner who can see export history.

Let Customers Export Everything

Give customers a complete self-service export of their own data in an open format, logged and explained.

// the spark catches · intelligence awakens · the answer unfolds

Buyers ask whether they can get their data out, and a good answer removes an objection immediately. An easy export also makes people less likely to leave, not more.

What's Included

  • A complete export the customer runs themselves.
  • An open format that opens in ordinary software.
  • Export recorded in the audit trail which is what a buyer wants to hear.
  • An assistant that explains what is in the file.

How To Use

  1. Export everything, not a convenient subset. Partial exports read as evasive.
  2. Use a format that opens anywhere. Proprietary exports are not exports.
  3. Make it self-service. An export by request is a retention tactic, not a feature.
  4. Log it. Buyers and auditors both ask.

Pair it with the audit trail, and reassure buyers alongside compliance prompts.
