🧾 Keep a Simple Audit Trail

Turn the app you built for yourself into something other people pay to use. These prompts add the parts that make a tool into a product: customer sign-in, plans and trials, limits that mean something, a billing lifecycle that handles the awkward cases, and an admin view so you can see who is actually using it. The unglamorous half nobody enjoys assembling.

A larger customer asked whether we keep an audit trail and we do not. Build me one. Record every significant action in the product with the account, the user who did it, the date and time, the type of action, the record affected, and the value before and after where something changed. Cover things like sign-in, permission changes, plan changes, record deletion, data export and settings changes, rather than logging every trivial click. Entries can never be edited or deleted, only added. Let an account owner see and search their own account history inside the product, and export it. Let me see everything across all accounts. Add an AI agent that answers a plain question such as who changed this setting and when, or what happened to this record, by reading the trail and explaining it in ordinary language rather than showing raw entries. Automate a scheduled monthly summary of unusual activity such as bulk deletions or permission escalations. Two logins: an account owner who sees only their own account trail, and me as the product owner.

Keep a Simple Audit Trail

Record who changed what and when with before and after values, visible to customers, in an immutable log.

// the spark catches · intelligence awakens · the answer unfolds

The first serious customer will ask who changed something. An audit trail is easy to add early and painful to add later, and it is often what unblocks a larger deal.

What's Included

  • Significant actions recorded with who, what, and when.
  • Before and after values on anything that changed.
  • Customer-visible history for their own account.
  • An assistant that answers a question about a change in plain language.

How To Use

  1. Log significant actions, not everything. An unreadable log is not evidence.
  2. Record the before and after value or the entry proves little.
  3. Make it immutable. An editable audit trail is not an audit trail.
  4. Let customers see their own history. It answers the question without you.

Extend it for regulated work with compliance prompts, and pair it with team seat management.
