A Slack to Notion automation saves a Slack discussion as a Notion page when someone adds the emoji you pick. Taskade AI reads the channel messages around that point and writes the decision, the owners, and the open questions, so the answer lives in Notion instead of in chat history.

What does the Slack to Notion automation do?

The Slack to Notion automation saves a Slack discussion to Notion when someone reacts with the emoji you pick. Taskade AI reads the recent channel messages and writes a Notion page with the decision, the owners, and the open questions, so the answer does not get lost in chat history.

How does the flow work?

  1. Trigger: Slack, New Reaction. You pick the emoji, for example :memo:. A reaction with that emoji starts a run.
  2. Step: Slack, Fetch Channel Messages. The flow reads the channel messages in the time window you set around the reacted message.
  3. Step: Taskade AI, Summarize with AI. The AI pulls out the decision, the owners, and the open questions.
  4. Step: Notion, Create Page. A new page goes into the Notion database you pick.

What lands in Notion?

Field Where it comes from Example
Title Taskade AI, from the discussion "Launch date moved to May 12"
Decision Taskade AI summary "Ship May 12 after the beta fix."
Owners and open questions Taskade AI summary "Dana: release notes. Open: pricing page copy?"

Which plan do you need?

The Slack and Notion steps need a paid Taskade plan. Pro is $10/mo billed annually. Free covers RSS, schedule and Taskade-only automations within its monthly run limit. The AI summary step uses AI credits. On Free, you earn free AI credits with referrals and invites, and you can upgrade any time.

When is another tool the better fit?

Slack to Notion guides show three ways to save a discussion. Pick by what the Notion page must hold.

Option What it saves Best for
Notion's Slack app, message action One message as a database item Saving a single request
Emoji automation with no AI step The reacted message text A raw log of messages
This Taskade flow An AI summary of the discussion A decision record someone reads in a minute

If you only want a link to one message in Notion, paste the Slack message link by hand. Use this flow when a long discussion needs a written record that someone can read in a minute.

How do you set it up?

Step 1: Connect Slack and pick the emoji

Click Build Workflow, connect Slack, and choose the emoji that saves a discussion.

Step 2: Set the message window

Choose how far back the Fetch Channel Messages step reads, for example the last two hours.

Step 3: Connect Notion

Share the target database with the Taskade connection and select it in the Create Page step.

Step 4: Test and turn it on

React to one test message, open the new Notion page, then turn the automation on.

Frequently asked questions

Which emoji starts the flow?

Any emoji you choose. Pick one your team does not use for anything else, so only real "save this" reactions start a run.

Does it save every message in the channel?

No. It reads the messages in the time window you set, and the AI keeps only the decision, the owners, and the open questions.

Can I go the other way, from Notion to Slack?

Yes. See Notion page update notifications for the reverse direction.

Does it read replies inside a thread?

No. The Fetch Channel Messages step reads the messages posted to the channel in the time window you set. Thread replies stay out of channel history unless someone also sends them to the channel, so ask for the outcome in the channel before you react.

Can it send different topics to different databases?

Yes. Add a Branch step after the AI summary, and give each path its own Create Page step and database.

Does the AI summary use credits?

Yes. Each summary uses AI credits. On Free, you earn free AI credits with referrals and invites, and you can upgrade any time.
