🧭 Track Where Customers Come From

Turn the app you built for yourself into something other people pay to use. These prompts add the parts that make a tool into a product: customer sign-in, plans and trials, limits that mean something, a billing lifecycle that handles the awkward cases, and an admin view so you can see who is actually using it. The unglamorous half nobody enjoys assembling.

I do a lot of marketing and I have no idea which parts work. Build me an attribution app. Capture the source of every sign-up, both automatically from the link they arrived on and by asking them in one optional question during sign-up, since the two often disagree usefully. Carry that source with the account for its whole life. Report by source: sign-ups, trials started, conversions to paid, still active after three and six months, and average revenue. Where I record marketing spend per source, work out cost per sign-up and cost per paying customer who is still active. Add an AI agent that reviews the last quarter and tells me plainly which sources produce customers who stay rather than customers who sign up, and warns me where a source looks good on volume but poor on retention. Automate a scheduled monthly attribution report and an alert when a source conversion rate changes materially. Two logins: an owner who sees revenue and cost, and a marketer who sees volumes and conversion.

Track Where Customers Come From

Capture where every sign-up came from and follow it through to paid and retained, with cost per paying customer.

// the spark catches · intelligence awakens · the answer unfolds

Sign-up counts are flattering and useless. This follows each source through to a paying, retained customer, which usually reorders the list completely.

What's Included

  • Source captured at sign-up and carried through the whole lifecycle.
  • Conversion by source from sign-up to paid to retained.
  • Cost per paying customer where you know the spend.
  • An assistant that names the source producing customers who stay.

How To Use

  1. Follow sources through to retained, not just to sign-up.
  2. Ask the customer directly as well. Self-reported source is surprisingly useful.
  3. Judge on customers who stay, not on trials started.
  4. Give a channel a fair window before you conclude anything.

Compare against value using the lifetime value calculator, and act on it with advertising prompts.
