TL;DR: Midjourney is a subscription AI image and video generator with no free trial on its website or Discord (verified October 2026). Taskade does not replace it. Taskade is the free workspace that runs the creative workflow around it: prompt libraries, briefs, review boards, approvals, client portals and automations. Try Taskade free →

Midjourney makes the image. Taskade runs the work around it.

Midjourney is one of the most respected AI image generators available. A 60-person, self-funded lab builds it, and its house style is the reason many art directors pay for it. As of October 2026 the default model is V8.2, released July 24, 2026, which focuses on aesthetics, image quality and Personalization. It also added an Edit Model that replaces Omni Reference, Character Reference and the Retexture tool.

The image is usually the middle of the job, not the end. Before it, someone writes a brief and a prompt. After it, someone picks a winner, a stakeholder approves it, a designer resizes it, and the asset goes to a client, a CMS or a social calendar. That surrounding work is where Taskade fits.

Midjourney answers "what should this image look like?" Taskade answers "who needs it, by when, and is it approved?"

What is Midjourney?

Midjourney is a subscription service that turns text prompts and reference images into images and short videos. You use it on midjourney.com or through the Midjourney Bot on Discord with the /imagine command. Each prompt returns four image options in about a minute, and each generation draws from the GPU time in your plan.

Midjourney at a glance (verified October 2026): Four plans, Basic, Standard, Pro and Mega, at $10, $30, $60 and $120 a month, or 20% less billed annually. The default model is V8.2. No free trial is available on the website or in Discord. Stealth Mode is on Pro and Mega only, and companies above $1,000,000 in yearly gross revenue must use Pro or Mega. See the Midjourney plan comparison for current rates.

Midjourney does well:

  • A distinctive, polished aesthetic that many teams prefer for hero art and concept work
  • Personalization profiles that learn your taste over time
  • The Edit Model for changes to an existing image, plus Pan, Zoom Out, Vary Region and Remix
  • Draft Mode for fast exploration, and Relax Mode for unlimited image generation from Standard up
  • Short video generation, with Relax video on Pro and Mega
  • Fast iteration: the October 2026 alpha adds a Thinking Mode test and shared folders

Where teams hit limits: Midjourney is built for generating, not for running a project. Briefs, prompt history across a team, approvals with owners and dates, client sign-off and hand-off to other tools all live somewhere else. Midjourney's Terms also say you may not use automated tools to access the service, so it does not plug into a workflow engine.

What is Taskade?

Taskade is an AI workspace built on Workspace DNA: Memory (Projects), Intelligence (Agents) and Execution (Automations). Your team's briefs, prompts and decisions live in projects. AI agents read that context and draft work. Automations move approved work into Slack, Google Drive, email and the other tools in your stack across 100+ integrations.

Taskade Genesis builds live apps from a prompt, so a creative team can turn the same workspace into a client review portal or an asset request form at a shareable URL. Every plan includes GenesisAuth email-and-password sign-in for those apps. Password protection is on Pro and above, and custom domains are on Pro and above.

Where each tool fits in a creative pipeline

Stage Who does it best How
Brief and goals Taskade A campaign project with the brief, audience, sizes and deadline
Prompt drafting Taskade An AI agent drafts prompt variations from the brief and your saved style notes
Image generation Midjourney Run the prompts on V8.2 with your Personalization profile
Selection and review Taskade Upload picks to a Board, comment, assign a reviewer
Approval and hand-off Taskade An automation posts approved assets to Slack or saves them to Google Drive
Client delivery Taskade A Taskade Genesis portal where the client sees and approves final assets

A concrete "use both" workflow

This is a setup a small brand or agency team can build in an afternoon on Taskade's Free plan, then grow on Pro.

  1. Prompt library project. Keep one Table with columns for prompt, parameters, aspect ratio, model version, style notes and the result link. Tag rows by campaign and by look. New teammates reuse what worked instead of starting over.
  2. Brief-to-prompt agent. Give a custom AI agent your brand guide and the prompt library as knowledge. Ask it for ten prompt variations for a new brief. A person runs the best ones in Midjourney.
  3. Review board. Upload the Midjourney picks to a Board with Draft, In Review, Changes and Approved columns. Each card holds the image, the exact prompt and the reviewer.
  4. Approval automation. When the reviewer completes the approval task, an automation posts the asset and its prompt to a Slack channel and saves a copy to Google Drive.
  5. Client portal. Taskade Genesis turns the approved column into a portal at a shareable URL, so the client signs in and leaves feedback without a Midjourney account.

The manual step is deliberate. Midjourney has no public API and its Terms forbid automated access, so a person generates and uploads. Everything after the upload can run on rails.

Feature-by-feature deep dive

Image quality and control

  • Midjourney leads on aesthetics. V8.2 brings bolder, more sophisticated images, Personalization that reads your taste, and an Edit Model for changes to an existing image.
  • Taskade is not an image model. Taskade EVE can generate images while it builds an app, and the OpenAI connector can generate images on your own key. For art-directed hero images, use Midjourney.

Collaboration and approvals

  • Midjourney added shared folders in its October 7, 2026 alpha changelog. Owners invite people as Collaborators, who generate into the folder, or Viewers, who browse.
  • Taskade adds the project layer: assignees, due dates, comments, chat, video calls, and multiple project views such as List, Board, Table, Mind Map, Docs (Beta), Gantt Chart, Calendar, Actionsheet and Org Chart. Gantt Chart, Actionsheet and Org Chart need a paid plan.

Privacy and rights

  • Midjourney content is public and remixable by default. Stealth Mode needs Pro or Mega, and companies above $1,000,000 in gross revenue must use one of those plans.
  • Taskade projects stay private to your workspace, with role-based access from Owner to Viewer. SSO is on Business and above, and SCIM is on Enterprise.

Automation and integrations

Pricing comparison

Plan Taskade Midjourney (verified October 2026)
Free Free Forever: unlimited projects, 2 members, 3 Taskade Genesis apps, 1 agent No free trial on the website or Discord
Entry Pro $10/mo billed annually ($20 monthly), up to 10 seats Basic $10/mo or $96/yr, 3.3 Fast GPU hours a month
Mid Business $25/mo billed annually ($50 monthly) Standard $30/mo or $288/yr, 15 Fast hours, unlimited Relax images
Upper Max $100/mo billed annually ($200 monthly) Pro $60/mo or $576/yr, 30 Fast hours, Stealth Mode
Top Enterprise $250/mo billed annually ($500 monthly) Mega $120/mo or $1,152/yr, 60 Fast hours

Midjourney prices each account, and its Terms allow one user per account. Taskade prices each workspace, so a Pro workspace covers up to 10 seats. The two bills cover different jobs, which is why most creative teams pay for both. Midjourney sells extra Fast GPU time at $4 an hour. Check the Midjourney plan page for current rates.

When to choose each

Choose Midjourney if:

  • Image quality and a distinctive aesthetic are the main goal, for example hero art, concept art, mood boards or editorial illustration.
  • You want Personalization, the Edit Model and Relax Mode for high-volume exploration.
  • You also want short video clips from the same tool and the same subscription.

Choose Taskade if:

  • Your bottleneck is the work around the image: briefs, prompt reuse, reviews, approvals and delivery.
  • You need private projects, assignees and deadlines for a team, not one account per person.
  • You want automations that move approved assets into Slack, Google Drive or a client portal.

Use both if: you generate the art in Midjourney and run the campaign in Taskade. That is the common setup for agencies, brand teams and content studios.

Frequently asked questions

Is Midjourney free in 2026?

No. Midjourney's help center says no free trial is available on the website or in Discord, and a limited trial exists only in the niji journey mobile app. Plans start at $10 a month, or $8 a month billed annually.

Does Taskade replace Midjourney?

No. Taskade is not an image model, so it does not replace Midjourney for art-directed images. Taskade runs the brief, prompt library, review, approval and delivery around Midjourney.

Can I store my Midjourney prompts in Taskade?

Yes. A Table project works well as a prompt library, with a row for each prompt and columns for parameters, version, style notes and the result. An AI agent can read that library and draft new variations. Browse design prompts and branding prompts for starting points.

Can Taskade send work to Midjourney automatically?

No. Midjourney has no public API and its Terms forbid automated access. A person runs the prompt in Midjourney, then Taskade automations handle the steps after upload.

What other AI image tools work with Taskade?

Teams that need a model with an API often pair Taskade with image APIs through the HTTP request action. See the FLUX comparison for an API-first image model and the Dreamina comparison for a free daily-credit image and video app. Our best AI image generators guide covers the wider field.
