TL;DR: FLUX is a family of image and video models from Black Forest Labs, sold per image through an API (from $0.008 per image on FLUX 3 Image Klein, verified October 2026) or as open weights. Taskade does not replace it. Taskade is the free workspace for the prompts, reviews, approvals and automations around FLUX output. Try Taskade free →

FLUX is the engine. Taskade is the workshop around it.

FLUX is the model family from Black Forest Labs, and it shows up inside many products you already know. Black Forest Labs sells FLUX three ways: a pay-as-you-go API, a browser playground, and open weights you deploy on your own infrastructure. As of October 2026 the newest releases are FLUX 3 Image (October 1) and FLUX 3 Image Klein (October 15).

A model call is one step in a longer job. Someone writes the brief, picks the reference images, writes the prompt, reviews the output, gets approval and ships the asset. Developers can wire that pipeline in code. Most marketing, brand and product teams want it in a shared workspace instead, and that is where Taskade fits.

FLUX answers "can the model make this image?" Taskade answers "which image ships, who approved it, and where does it go?"

What is FLUX?

FLUX is a set of generative models for images, video and audio from Black Forest Labs. Black Forest Labs announced FLUX 3 on July 23, 2026 as a multimodal foundation model trained across image, video and audio. Its homepage describes video clips of up to 20 seconds in one generation, with optional speech, effects and ambience.

FLUX at a glance (verified October 2026): Pay as you go, "no subscriptions, no seat fees." FLUX 3 Image costs $0.041 to $0.607 per image by resolution, and FLUX 3 Image Klein costs $0.008 to $0.036. FLUX.2 [pro] starts at $0.03. Open-weights licenses are sold as Builder, Platform, Professional, Enterprise and Synthetic Data plans. See bfl.ai/pricing for current rates.

FLUX does well:

  • Precise layout control: FLUX 3 Image accepts bounding boxes in the prompt to place a headline, a face or each panel of a grid
  • Pixel-exact local edits that recolor, replace, move or remove elements and leave the rest untouched
  • Up to ten reference images per request and output up to 4K at 15 aspect ratios
  • Open weights: FLUX 3 Image Klein is 5.6B parameters and runs on consumer GPUs down to an RTX 3090
  • LoRA training and fine-tuning on the Klein Base weights
  • Transparent per-image pricing, with no charge for failed or moderated generations

Where teams hit limits: FLUX is a developer product. The API, the dashboard and the weights give you a strong engine, but you build the pipeline. Prompt libraries, brand rules, approvals, assignees, client sign-off and delivery are not part of a model API.

What is Taskade?

Taskade is an AI workspace built on Workspace DNA: Memory (Projects), Intelligence (Agents) and Execution (Automations). Projects hold the briefs, prompts and decisions. AI agents read that context and draft new work. Automations move approved work across 100+ integrations.

Taskade Genesis builds live apps from a prompt, so a team can ship an image request form or a client review portal at a shareable URL. GenesisAuth email-and-password sign-in works on every plan. Password protection is on Pro and above, and custom domains are on Pro and above.

Where each tool fits in an image pipeline

Stage Who does it best How
Brief and brand rules Taskade A project with the brief, brand colors, approved references and sizes
Prompt drafting Taskade An AI agent writes FLUX prompts and box layouts from the brief
Generation FLUX FLUX 3 Image or Klein through the API, playground or your own GPU
Review and approval Taskade A Board with owners, comments and due dates
Delivery Taskade Automations to Slack or Google Drive, or a Taskade Genesis client portal
Learning loop Taskade Winning prompts go back into the prompt library for reuse

A concrete "use both" workflow

This setup suits an in-house marketing team or a product team that ships many product shots or ad variants.

  1. Prompt library project. Keep a Table with prompt, bounding boxes, reference image links, resolution, model and result. Tag each row by product and campaign.
  2. Prompt agent. Give a custom AI agent your brand guide and the prompt library. It drafts FLUX 3 Image prompts, including box layouts for a headline and the product, from each new brief.
  3. Generation step. An automation can send the prompt to the FLUX API through the HTTP request action on your own Black Forest Labs key. FLUX returns a polling URL, so the flow waits, fetches the result, and writes the image link back to the row. Teams that prefer the playground can generate by hand and upload instead.
  4. Review board. New images land on a Board with Draft, In Review and Approved columns. Reviewers comment on the card that holds the image and its exact prompt.
  5. Delivery. When the approval task is complete, an automation posts the image to Slack and saves it to Google Drive. A Taskade Genesis portal shows the client the approved set.

Every call runs on your own FLUX account, so FLUX bills you at its per-image rates. Taskade has no native FLUX connector, and the HTTP action is the bridge.

Feature-by-feature deep dive

Image quality and control

  • FLUX offers some of the most precise layout control available: boxes in the prompt, local edits, multi-reference composition and 4K output.
  • Taskade is not an image model. Taskade EVE can generate images during a Taskade Genesis build, and the OpenAI connector can generate images on your own key. For production image work with layout control, call FLUX.

Who can use it

  • FLUX targets developers first: an API, a dashboard, Diffusers, ComfyUI and Hugging Face weights. A browser playground is available for testing.
  • Taskade targets the whole team. Marketers, designers, product managers and clients use the same projects, with multiple project views such as List, Board, Table, Mind Map, Docs (Beta), Gantt Chart, Calendar, Actionsheet and Org Chart. Gantt Chart, Actionsheet and Org Chart need a paid plan.

Collaboration and access

  • FLUX shares credits across an organization and tracks usage per project, which helps finance and engineering.
  • Taskade adds role-based access from Owner to Viewer, comments, chat and video calls. SSO is on Business and above, and SCIM is on Enterprise.

Automation and integrations

  • FLUX publishes an API, an MCP server and agent skills for developers who build their own pipeline.
  • Taskade runs no-code automations across 100+ integrations, with webhooks on Pro and above and the HTTP request action for any API.

Pricing comparison

Plan Taskade FLUX (verified October 2026)
Free Free Forever: unlimited projects, 2 members, 3 Taskade Genesis apps, 1 agent No free plan listed; open weights run on your own hardware under their license
Usage AI credits: none at the start (earn or buy credits) FLUX 3 Image Klein $0.008 to $0.036 per image; FLUX 3 Image $0.041 to $0.607 per image
Team Pro $10/mo billed annually ($20 monthly), up to 10 seats Organization credits shared across projects, auto top-up from $5
Scale Business $25/mo billed annually ($50 monthly); Max $100/mo billed annually ($200 monthly) Open-weights plans: Builder (10K images a month), Platform and Professional (100K images a month)
Enterprise Enterprise $250/mo billed annually ($500 monthly) Custom volume, SLAs and combined API and weights pricing

FLUX bills per output, so cost scales with volume and resolution. Taskade bills per workspace, so the price does not change with how many images your team reviews. Most teams that call FLUX through Taskade pay both: FLUX for the images on their own key, and Taskade for the workspace. Check bfl.ai/pricing for current FLUX rates.

When to choose each

Choose FLUX if:

  • You need precise layout control, local edits and multi-reference composition in production image work.
  • You want to run the model on your own infrastructure, fine-tune it, or train LoRAs on your brand.
  • You are a developer who wants clear per-image pricing and an API that fits into your own product.

Choose Taskade if:

  • Your team needs a shared place for briefs, prompt libraries, reviews and approvals.
  • Non-developers need to run the workflow without writing code.
  • You want automations and client portals around the images, not only the images.

Use both if: you want FLUX quality and a no-code workflow. Call FLUX from a Taskade automation on your own key, and keep the whole review and delivery loop in Taskade.

Frequently asked questions

Is FLUX open source?

Some FLUX models ship as open weights. FLUX 3 Image Klein is on Hugging Face under the FLUX Kommunity License, and FLUX.2 [dev] is listed for local use only. License terms differ by model, so read bfl.ai/licensing before commercial use.

Does Taskade replace FLUX?

No. Taskade is not an image model. It runs the briefs, prompts, reviews, approvals and delivery around FLUX.

Do I need to code to use FLUX with Taskade?

No code is needed for the Taskade side. The HTTP request action needs the FLUX endpoint, your API key in a header and a JSON body, which you can copy from the FLUX docs. Teams that prefer no setup can generate in the FLUX playground and upload the results.

Where can I find prompt ideas for FLUX?

Start with Taskade's design prompts and branding prompts, then save your own winners in a prompt library project. The best AI image generators guide compares FLUX with other models.
