The physics establishment rejected the idea. Everett left academia and worked on military analysis. He died in 1982 having watched his framework dismissed as "metaphysics."
1985 — David Deutsch
Deutsch was studying quantum computing — specifically, why quantum algorithms could be exponentially faster than classical ones for certain problems. He noticed something: when a quantum computer factors a 2,048-bit number, the math requires 2^2048 parallel computations. There aren't 2^2048 atoms in the universe to host those computations.
His conclusion: the parallel computations must be happening somewhere outside our branch. The many-worlds interpretation isn't optional — it's the operating principle of every quantum computer ever built. Without parallel realities, the computation can't fit.
This reframed the debate. Many-worlds wasn't philosophical preference; it was engineering requirement.
2019 — Sycamore
Google's Sycamore quantum processor performed a sampling computation in 200 seconds that the best classical supercomputer would take roughly 10,000 years to verify. Skeptics asked: where did the extra computation happen? Deutsch's answer — in parallel branches of reality — held up.
2026 — Genesis Quantum
Genesis Quantum doesn't run on quantum hardware. But the architecture reaches commercial software in a different way: parallel-branch reasoning over LLMs. EVE (the Genesis meta-agent) fans out into N branches, each developing a complete candidate Workspace DNA in isolation. The interference merge then plays the role of measurement, collapsing branches where they agree and surfacing divergences for the user.
The substrate is classical compute; the architectural insight is Everett's. Run many branches, let agreement speak, let disagreement surface, let outliers drop.
