# Auto Top-Up: Stay Building With Automatic Credit Refills

Auto top-up buys AI credits for you when your balance gets low. Your AI agents, automations, and apps keep working without a pause.

## Before You Start

Auto top-up is optional, and you can turn it off at any time.

## How It Works

Auto top-up buys one credit pack with your card when your balance cannot keep up.

| Rule | What it means for you |
| --- | --- |
| **It buys at your threshold** | When your balance gets to the threshold that you set, it buys one pack. |
| **It covers the next AI step** | If your balance is above the threshold but too low for the next AI step, it buys a pack then. |
| **It shows on your receipt** | Each automatic purchase is a separate line item on your Stripe receipt. |
| **It has limits** | It buys at most 5 times in 24 hours. If you set a monthly spend limit, it stops for the rest of the month at that limit. |

If Taskade stops an AI step because you ran out of credits, the new credits arrive a few seconds later. Run the step again.

## Step 1: Turn Auto-Reload On or Off

One switch starts or stops all automatic purchases.

1. Open [Settings → Credits](https://www.taskade.com/settings/usage) in a web browser.
2. Find the **Auto-reload** row on the **Credits** card.
3. Click the switch. It turns on or off at once.

The row shows your own amount and threshold. This example shows the default values.

To buy credits yourself instead, click **Buy Credits** on the same card. You can also open the [credit packs](https://www.taskade.com/upgrade/credits) page while you are signed in.

## Step 2: Change the Amount and the Threshold

You can keep auto top-up on and still control each purchase.

1. In the **Auto-reload** row, click **Manage**. A new tab opens.
2. Click **Change settings**.
3. Under **Top up amount**, pick the dollar amount for each purchase.
4. Under **When credit balance drops below**, pick the balance that starts a purchase.
5. Click **Save changes**.

To stop all automatic purchases from this tab, click **Turn off**.

## You Are Done When

The **Auto-reload** row shows your amount and threshold, and the switch is in the state that you want.

## Review a Charge You Did Not Expect

A support request with the receipt gets the fastest review.

1. Open [Settings → Credits](https://www.taskade.com/settings/usage) to see what used your credits.
2. If you want to stop more purchases, turn the **Auto-reload** switch off.
3. Open [taskade.com/contact](https://www.taskade.com/contact).
4. Send your email address, the charge date, and the amount or the Stripe receipt.

Contact support within 30 days of a charge that looks wrong. We will review it. Credits that you buy **never expire**, so an unused balance stays on your account. See the [Terms of Service](https://www.taskade.com/terms) for the full billing terms.

## Tips

- **Approve every purchase yourself.** Turn auto top-up off, and buy packs by hand when you need them.
- **Watch your usage.** Open [Settings → Credits](https://www.taskade.com/settings/usage) once a week.
- **Use a lighter model for routine work.** **TSK-Instant** handles quick edits with the lowest credit use.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Can I set a monthly spending limit?**

Yes. In the **Auto-reload** row, click **Manage** and set **Monthly spend limit**. Pick **No limit** (the default), $200, $500, or $1,000, or enter your own amount up to $25,000. When the next purchase would go past your limit, auto top-up stops until next month, and Taskade emails you once. To approve every pack purchase yourself, turn the **Auto-reload** switch off and buy packs by hand.

**How often can auto top-up charge me?**

Auto top-up charges each time your balance gets to the threshold that you set. If you use credits fast, several charges can happen in one billing period. It buys at most 5 times in 24 hours, and never past your monthly spend limit if you set one.

**What if a charge arrives after I turn auto top-up off?**

Look at the charge date first. A purchase can go through right before you turn the switch off. If the charge came after you turned it off, [contact support](https://www.taskade.com/contact) with your Stripe receipt.

**Where are the credits I bought?**

Purchased credits go into **Extra Credits** on [Settings → Credits](https://www.taskade.com/settings/usage). The **Monthly Usage** meter above it shows your Monthly Credits. Taskade uses your **Monthly Credits** first, then your Extra Credits. Monthly Credits reset each billing cycle, and Extra Credits do not expire.

**Is auto top-up on the Free plan?**

No. Auto top-up works on every paid plan. On the Free plan, you earn free AI credits as you go, and you can upgrade any time.
